EXPOSICIONES
Fuegopatagonia and Pampa have been the territories of diverse Indigenous Peoples for at least 13,000 years.
During the expansion of nation states, these communities were persecuted and expelled from their territories in the context of a genocide.
Their languages –Mapuzugun, Günün a Yajüch, Rankül, Aonekko ´a´ien, Teushen, Selk’nam, Haush, Yagan, Kawésqar, Querandí and Chono– were considered extinct and today are practically unknown to most of society.
However, these peoples resisted and many of these languages are spoken, taught and passed down through generations.
This exhibition presents our research on the processes of linguistic documentation carried out between 1880 and 1950. It also highlights the formation of new communities of speakers.
The exhibition presents three thematic sections through text panels, maps, photos, 3D objects and videos.
- Languages, Peoples and Territories: Approaches to the languages, their relationships and spatialities.
- Times of Conquest and Documentation (1860-1930): Processes of historical documentation and their current study. Network of co-producers.
- Times of Revitalization: Presentation of revitalization efforts carried out by teams of speakers.

Who are we?
A group of linguists, anthropologists, historians, musicians and science communicators from various national universities and research centers across the country, brought together by a shared interest within the ALT Group (Archives, Languages and Territories).
Members of language revitalization teams from different places participated in the content curation.
AL VIENTO is carried out within the framework of various research projects, outreach initiatives and university social work spaces within the Argentine scientific system. Read more

Educational proposal
This proposal aimed at primary, secondary and higher education levels contains material for classroom work in Spanish language on the topics addressed in the traveling exhibition Al Viento. It was developed within the framework of an outreach project, a research project and two social work projects based at the Andean Campus of UNRN.
In this collective endeavor, we bring together teacher-researchers, doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate students. We belong to the programs of Bachelor’s Degree in Literature, Teaching Degree in Language and Literature, and Teaching Degree in History from three national universities: Universidad Nacional de Rio Negro (Andean Campus), Universidad Nacional de La Pampa (Santa Rosa Campus) and Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco (Trelew Campus). Additionally, in some cases we are members of the CONICET scientific system and members of the ALT Group (Archives, Languages and Territories).

Traveling exhibition
We propose to exhibit AL VIENTO in museums, universities, schools, community spaces and cultural centers, especially in the territories inhabited by the communities currently engaged in the revitalization of their languages in Pampa, Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.
Proponemos acompañar la exposición con presentaciones artísticas, charlas, talleres o cualquier otra propuesta que haga de la exposición un lugar de encuentro con las comunidades locales.

“Unpublished Documents in Fuegian-Patagonian Languages (1880–1950)”
This volume presents a series of studies on the practices and methods of documentation of eight Fuegopatagonian languages—Selk’nam, Haush, Alakaluf / Kawésqar, Yaghan, Aonekko ’a’ien, Teushen, Günün a Yajüch, and Mapuzungun—carried out in the region during the last third of the 19th century and up to the mid-20th century, in a context of territorial expropriation and the genocide of Indigenous Peoples. It also makes available previously unpublished documents related to these languages, which have been held in archives and repositories in Argentina, Chile, Germany, and Italy.
The publication aims to make visible the work of Indigenous co-producers in the collection of information and the documentation methods of their languages, as well as the material conditions under which these processes took place. It also highlights a little-known body of manuscript sources that, at the time, was circulated among various scholars, objectified, and extracted from its speech communities. In doing so, it contributes to fostering an ethical stance in interdisciplinary research on the languages of the Indigenous Peoples of the Fuegopatagonian region.
